Benny Greb | Signature Stick Review

Product Review

Benny Greb is one of my favorite drummers. Not only can he groove and make just about everything feel great, but he has beautiful control and finesse over the drum set at all times. Most importantly – he is a very musical drummer. That is important. His DVDs The Language of Drumming and The Art and Science of Groove are both hugely influential in my drumming life and I also enjoy a lot of the albums he has come out with in the last few years.

Point being – Benny is an incredible drummer. So when I heard Vic Firth was releasing a signature stick they had worked on with Benny, I wanted to get some immediately. I am a Vic Firth artist and they were kind enough to send me a few pairs of sticks when they were released. I was fascinated by how much heavier they were than I expected. They feel a lot like a 5B stick, but the tip is slightly different and the weight distribution is also varied from a typical 5B. As I say in the video above – I think these sticks would be great in a heavy hitting situation where you are slamming and need to play at loud volumes. They would also be a great stick to play very lightly but get a large tone out of drums. Either way, I don’t think you can miss with this stick. The tip also adds a bit more articulation than the typical tear drop tip on their 5B which I really liked.

Go buy some and let me know what you think!
